‘Sé an rannphartaíocht an chuid is tábhachtaí.
Here in Gaelscoil Bhríde there is a wide programme of extra curricular activities in which the pupils may participate.
Sport plays a central role in our school, especially Gaelic football and hurling. All pupils from junior infants up are given the opportunity of playing our native games. We are in the fortunate position of having an excellent coach from the local G.A.A. club coming in and supporting the work being done by the teachers. We participate in all Cumann na mBunscol competitions where we have enjoyed much success at both Under 11 and Under 13 level in hurling, football and ladies football. Many of our pupils have represented Tipperary in Primary Games. We also participate in competitions for Gaelscoileanna and Gaeltacht schools where pupils have the opportunity of meeting their peers and chatting ‘trí ghaeilge’. We try and give our pupils the opportunity to participate in as wide a range of sport as possible such as such as cross country running, soccer, tag rugby and spikeball.
Our pupils have had some great days out with the I.R.F.U. and tag rugby, having played and being crowned champions in the rugby mecca that is Thomond Park, along with Musgrave Park also.
We have been in the fortunate position of visiting some of the Gaeltachtaí around the country, while participating in Féile Peile Gael Linn. A massive occasion for the school was being crowned Munster Football Champions in Gaeltacht na Rinne. We have been to Baile Átha an Ghaorthaidh and Rath Cairn also. We have participated and been victorious in the Féile Iománaíochta, a competition for Gaeltacht schools which is held in Galway.
Rang 6 travel to Killary Adventure Centre for an overnight trip and are introduced to different adventure sports and outdoor pursuits.
We participate in Tipperary Athletics Primary Schools Cross Country Championships every autumn.
We play in the F.A.I.S. Primary Schools soccer competition where we have had the honour of representing Tipperary and Munster in 3 All Ireland Finals. A huge honour and occasion for the pupils to have played in the Aviva Stadium.
A relatively new venture here in the school has been the introduction of Spikeball, a child friendly game devised by Volleyball Ireland to introduce children to the skills of volleyball. We participate in tournaments organised in the sport and the pupils hugely enjoy them.
Participation and enjoyment are at the core of all we do.
Tá áit lárnach ag an gceol leis, sa scoil le dhá ghrúpa ceoil againn, grúpa sóisearach agus sinsearach a sheinneann ag ócáidí éagsúla scoile. Tá réimse uirlisí againn sa ghrúpa agus bíonn fáilte i gcónaí roimh daoine nua páirt a ghlacadh. Tagann múinteoir ceoil chun na scoile gach seachtain chun an fheadóg stáin a mhúineadh do rang 3, 4, 5 agus 6.
Tá cór scoile againn le réimse amhrán Béarla is Gaeilge acu. Canann said ag na sacraimintí agus ócáidí eile scoile is paróiste. Glacaimid páirt i gCór na nÓg agus “Peace Proms”, uair a bhíonn deis ag na daltaí sinsearacha canadh mar chuid de chór náisiúnta in amharchlanna móra na tíre. Bíonn ceolchoirm spraoíúil againn le linn Seachtain na Gaeilge leis an gceoltóir cáiliúil, John Spillane.
Music plays a huge part in Gaelscoil Bhríde where all pupils from Rang 3 to Rang 6 play the tin whistle. We have a music teacher who comes to the school every Thursday to teach the tin whistle and also to practice and coordinate both our music groups. We have a junior and a senior group who between them play a wide variety of instruments and are often called upon to perform at various school and parish events.
We also have a school choir who have a wide varied repertoire of songs in both English and Irish. They sing at Sacramental and school events. We also participate in The National Children’s Choir and “Peace Proms” where our senior pupils join with children from around the country to perform in some of the main theatres. Some of the firm favourites are na hamhráin Ghaeilge which the pupils enjoy performing especially with the famous John Spillane who performs here during Seachtain na Gaeilge.
Tagann múinteoir chun na scoile chun “Labhairt agus Drámaíocht” a dhéanamh le daltaí na scoile i ndiaidh am scoile. Sna ceachtanna seo foghlaímíonn said réimse filíochta, próis is teoiric agus bíonn deiseanna cainte is plé acu. Déanann said scrúduithe le The Irish Board of Speech and Drama agus The Leinster School of Speech and Drama is bíonn deiseanna ag na daltaí grádanna éagsúla a bhaint amach. Is mór mar a chuireann se le cumas labhartha na ndaltaí.
Speech and Drama
The pupils have the opportunity to attend Speech and Drama classes after school. The classes are given by a qualified teacher and the children take exams under the Irish Board of Speech and Drama and the Leinster School of Speech and Drama where they can progress through the various grades and gain invaluable life skills. This has proven to really empower the pupils and has given them much confidence in speaking to groups of people.
Tagann múinteoir damhsa chun na scoile chun Gluaiseacht Chruthaitheach a dhéanamh le daltaí i ndiaidh scoile. Bíonn deis ag daltaí páirt a ghlacadh sna ranganna seo, más mian leo. Baineann said ard taitneamh as réimse gluaiseachta le ceol agus cur i láthair cruthaitheach.
Dance – Creative Movement
A qualified dance teacher comes to the school one evening a week and teaches dance – Creative Movement to pupils who wish to participate. The children thoroughly enjoy the classes. It gives them an opportunity to express themselves in many different ways while exploring various means of performance.
