I Meán Fomhair na bliana sin, d’oscail Gaelscoil Durlas a dóirse, ar bhóthar Shliabh na mBan. Is i dteach beag a d’fhan an scoil go dtí an bhliain dár gcionn, nuair a bhogamar go suíomh nua ar Bhóthar na Mainistreach. Le haitheantas oifigiúil faighte ón Roinn Oideachais, lean an scoil ag dul ó neart to neart. Lonnaithe i suíomh álainn faoi scáth crann cnó capaill is feá is ansin a d’fhreastal na céadta dalta go dtí gur bhogamar chuig ár bhfoirgneamh nua ar Bhóthar na Naomh, sa bhliain 2008. Taobh thiar de phíobaire aonair d’fhágamar slán lenár seanscoil agus thugamar aghaidh ar thuras nua oideachais, chuig ár scoil nua aimseartha, galánta faoi scáth Staid Semple.
Is ansin a leanann an scéal….
History
A group of dedicated and enthusiastic parents came together in 1990, seeking “something different” for their children, educationally. With a particular interest in Irish this hard working group together, founded Gaelscoil Durlas.
In September of that year Gaelscoil Durlas Éile, opened its doors to the pupils of Thurles and the surrounding area. From humble beginnings in a little house on Slievenamon Road, an amazing journey began which has seen hundreds of pupils receive their primary education “trí Ghaeilge”. The following year, with official recognition from the Department of Education, the school moved across the town to Abbey Raod. On this beautiful site, under the horse chestnut and beech trees Gaelscoil Durlas grew from strength to strength. In 2008 we moved to our new building on Bohernanave.
Behind a lone piper we said goodbye to our old school and together, parents, pupils and teachers, we embarked on a new chapter as we made the move to our new modern school in the shadow of the majestic Semple Stadium.
It is from here the story continues ……..
